Tempo‐spatial evolution of seed plant endemism in Taiwan island

چکیده

Abstract Aim In Taiwan island, recent land‐bridge and oversea dispersal after the appearance of proto‐Taiwan (<6.5 Ma) is responsible for its biodiversity assembly. Radiations have also been widely reported in mountain systems. The tempo‐spatial route to floral hotspot was determined through a meta‐analysis evolution endemic plants. Location island adjacent regions. Taxon Seed Methods Published dated phylogenies were compiled infer origin times represented by stem ages. To determine speciation mode, either situ or origin, ancestral range shift pattern and/or current distribution sister taxa used with 10 different biogeographical regions classified. Histograms quantifying numbers modes within bins 0.5 Ma constructed. Probabilities long‐distance (LDD) evaluated. Results 125 sampled species originate between late Eocene Pleistocene, which 14 (11.2%) 111 (88.8%) derived before emergence proto‐Taiwan, respectively. Spatially, would bigger contribution formation endemism than events (56.8% vs. 43.2%). (mean = 1.83 significantly younger those 6.34 Ma). main where occurred South‐Central China ( n 29) Southeast 28), followed Japan 14). High probabilities (60.8%) LDD found. Main Conclusions from Asian flora supported southern part found be most important source. that may correlated uplift, monsoon intensification Pleistocene climatic fluctuations exerted greater contributions there. Temporally, predominantly proto‐Taiwan. Additional investigations more sophisticated sampling genetic data are needed future.

Evolution of the PEBP gene family in plants: functional diversification in seed plant evolution.

The phosphatidyl ethanolamine-binding protein (PEBP) gene family is present in all eukaryote kingdoms, with three subfamilies identified in angiosperms (FLOWERING LOCUS T [FT], MOTHER OF FT AND TFL1 [MFT], and TERMINAL FLOWER1 [TFL1] like). In angiosperms, PEBP genes have been shown to function both as promoters and suppressors of flowering and to control plant architecture. In this study, we f...

Exclusion of introduced deer increases size and seed production success in an island‐endemic plant species

The presence of extra-local invaders, such as the southern California mule deer (Odocoileus hemionus) on Santa Catalina Island, may contribute to more selective and insidious effects within the unique ecosystems that have evolved in their absence. Studies at the species level may detect effects not noticed in broader, community level vegetation monitoring or help tease apart differences in the ...

Molluscan fauna of Gueishan Island, Taiwan

This dataset records the occurrence and inventory of molluscan fauna on Gueishan Island, the only active volcanic island in Taiwan, based on the literature survey and field investigation conducted between 2011 and 2012. The literature review involved seven studies published from 1934 to 2003, which collectively reported 112 species from 61 genera and 37 families of Mollusca on Gueishan Island. ...

Endozoochorous seed dispersal of plant species in semi-steppe rangelands

During last two decades studies on endozoochorous seed dispersal indicated that a large numbers of plant seeds are potentially dispersed and suceefully germinated via animal dung. However, very little is known about the relative importance of endozoochory in germination success of plant species in semi-steppe rangelands. In this paper we examined dung germinating seed content, seed deposition p...
